Description

Broadway2LA Acting Studio is offering it’s first ever “Filmmaking 101” course (5 weeks + 2 extra hours in the field filming).  In this hands-on crash course, students learn every stage of the filmmaking process with award-winning producer and director Jon Osbeck. Each student will direct, produce, and help edit a short film scene. By the end of the course, students receive a professionally edited copy of the scene they helped create.

5-Week Schedule

Week 1 – Script Breakdown & Vision
Analyze a two-page scene. Identify objectives, obstacles, and emotional beats. Complete a basic script breakdown and build a simple production budget. Define the creative vision.

Week 2 – Pre-Production
Create shot lists and storyboards. Plan coverage (masters, singles, OTS, inserts). Scout the location, block actors, and prepare to shoot.

Week 3 – Production (4 hour class session for filming)
Film the scene under real-world conditions. Direct actors, capture strong coverage, and protect the edit with inserts and reactions.

Week 4 – Rough Edit
Review footage, pull selects, and assemble the first cut. Shape pacing and performance using basic editing techniques.

Week 5 – Final Edit & Screening
Refine the edit, add music and sound, apply basic color correction, and screen all four versions. Discuss how creative choices shaped each film.
